Abstract:
Nanotechnology has become a buzz word in legal, business, and investment circles. Yet, few lawyers and investors understand what it means or how and when it will make a commercial impact. In this article, Managing Editor John Miller and Stanford Assistant Professors K.J. Cho and Michael McGehee seek to provide a conceptual framework for understanding nanotechnology. They also identify the likely commercial applications of nanotechnology and generalize when these applications are likely to hit the marketplace. In doing so, they divide nanotechnology into three categories: simple nanotechnology, building small nanotechnology, and building large nanotechnology.
