Top Ten Large Companies Investing in Nanotechnology

Abstract:
In this issue, we highlight the top ten large companies investing in nanotechnology. We considered such factors as research and development (R&D) dollars, quantity of patents, and commercialization of nanotech-based products. The analysis, however, was complicated by difficulties in defining and identifying total company dollars devoted to nanotechnology R&D and obtaining access to confidential information. Thus, the purpose of this section is not to provide a formulistic assessment, but to highlight the various “household names” that have made substantial investments in nanotechnology. The companies appear in alphabetical order.
