The Impact of Carbon Nanotubes on Solar Energy Conversion
Volume 3, Issue 4

Authors:
Emmanuel Kymakis, Technical Educational Institute, Crete, Greece

Abstract:
Perhaps no other application of nanotechnology has intrigued investors more than photovoltaics. In this paper, Dr. Emmanuel Kymakis discusses the integration of carbon nanotubes (“CNTs”) in organic photovoltaic devices. Part I provides a background on photovoltaic and CNT technologies. Part II goes on to examine the use of CNTs as electron acceptor materials and transparent electrodes in donor- acceptor photovoltaic devices. Finally, Part III considers modern manufacturing techniques for the development of cheap solar cells, focusing on current research efforts and commercialization issues.
