Abstract:
Carbon nanotubes are emerging as extraordinary materials for biomedical applications with significant promise for commercialization. This article summarizes the physical properties and chemical functionalization strategies of carbon nanotubes, reviews their biomedical applications, and highlights what is known about their toxicity. Special consideration is given to demonstrate the potential value of carbon nanotubes in commercial biomedical applications. The authors conclude that CNT-based technologies could have a tremendous impact on therapeutics, diagnostics, and drug discovery in the coming years.
