Nanotech Investing for the Average Joe: Opportunities for Non-Institutional Investors
Volume 3, Issue 2

Authors:
Evan J. Hoobchaak, Private Financial Planner

Abstract:
With institutional investors having a tremendous advantage as to the resources of information and money, the individual investor may see nanotechnology and feel like he or she is missing out on the next investment boom. In this article, personal financial planner Evan Hoobchaak discusses nanotech investment strategies for the individual investor, allowing the “average Joe” to potentially ride the wave of a relatively new and still developing technology. There are basically three ways that an individual investor can “play” nanotechnology today—through (1) large-cap companies, (2) small- to mid-cap companies, and (3) indices and holding companies. The author assesses the strengths and weaknesses of each of these strategies.
